The Expert Panel for
Cosmetic Ingredient Safety
is an independent panel of experts that assesses the safety of individual ingredients as used in cosmetic products. The Expert Panel comprises world – renowned scientists, including dermatologists, pathologists, toxicologists, and chemists. These experts are independent of the cosmetics industry and adhere to a strict conflict of interest policy.
The Expert Panel
The Expert Panel assesses the safety of individual ingredients, as used in cosmetic products, through critical consideration of publicly available information and submitted, unpublished data. Its independent conclusions are presented at professional, scientific, and medical conferences, and are published in a peer-reviewed scientific journal.
Our Mission
Formed in 1976, the Expert Panel for Cosmetic Ingredient Safety thoroughly reviews and assesses the safety of ingredients used in cosmetics in an open, unbiased, and expert manner, and publishes the results in the peer-reviewed literature (the International Journal of Toxicology). As part of these efforts to be open and unbiased, non-voting liaisons from government, industry, and consumer groups, participate in
every Expert Panel meeting.
